Background
SDG was founded in 1990 by Seamus Duffy and in 2020 they celebrated 30 years in business.
They work with manufacturers, contractors, engineers and designers supplying essential components that improve safety, enhance quality and drive efficiency at every stage of construction.
The Problem
SDG has had a web presence for a number of years but, unfortunately, the CMS they had been using was an in-house one and made any features or works requests lengthy and expensive. The lack of an open source CMS forced them to be tied to their web agency for all requests. The site lacked much functionality that a modern web site requires with little attention paid to OpenGraph protocols or site speed and mobile responsiveness.
what we did
From a web design point of view, we made some changes to the overall look and feel with improvements in usability and mobile responsiveness. However, we rebuilt the entire site backend from scratch and implemented some required technical SEO improvements. We reviewed and re-structured the information architecture, along with introducing the benefits of using an open source CMS – embedding of videos became a simple task, introduction of XML sitemaps and the introduction of OpenGraph protocols to help with the sharing of information on social media.
With a in place we have periodically made further improvements to the site – introduced a mega menu to help with product searching and redesign and rebuilt the product pages and the team profiles to help with the comms plans the marketing team have.
We introduced WordPress multisite functionality to control the content of the primary and Irish versions of their web presence.

With the introduction of a usable CMS, the client now has much more control over their marketing and communication goals. Wibble gave full CMS control to the client allowing them to update, promote or feature content without our input – a huge benefit to the client.
With the site now under our managed web hosting and web support offering, we are able to look after all WordPress updates and patches along with control over site speed and server responsiveness.
