Commission for victims and survivors (CVSNI)
Giving voice and influence to all people affected by the Troubles in Northern Ireland.
CJI NI is Northern Ireland’s statutory Inspectorate with responsibility for inspecting all aspects of the criminal justice system apart from the judiciary.
The CJI went out to public tender to seek a supplier to design, develop, migrate content and manage a new web presence. Wibble submitted a tender along with another agency, Big Motive. Wibble had been working alongside Big Motive on quite a few projects as a partnership between two of the leading agencies on the island of Ireland.
Oh where do we start? The previous site was basically unusable. The site was using a dangerously out-dated version of Kentico with no ability to export content. The CMS itself was close to impossible to use with no modern features for content management and due to a unusual setup, the site was riddled with duplicate content and dead links. From a digital marketing standpoint, the site was running around 10 years behind modern techniques and did not meet the needs of the admins or the users.
The CJI provide an absolutely crucial role in society and they had basically lost the ability to effectively manage the content on their site.
Wibble took on the role of development, migration, launch, hosting and management of the new site. Working with Big Motive was a great experience and they carried out research, interviews, tree testing, wireframing, concepts and handover. Wibble took on the role of contract manager – overseeing the entire project from start to finish.
Working from the wireframes and user interface concepts, we created an entirely bespoke WordPress framework to allow for the management of circa 2500 reports, uploads, news items and pages. We built custom WordPress blocks off the content mapping exercises carried out by Big Motive that were responsive and accessible. The undertaking was a large one with a tight deadline for the project and the entire Wibble team worked tirelessly, along with Big Motive, to launch on time and on budget.
We, as per our web development processes, built the entire site using the WordPress block editor with some integration with Advanced Custom Fields. The news section had 1000+ articles, so we built a system using FacetWp to allow for filtering, sorting and categorisation of all the news articles. Usability and accessibility was to the fore, with site speed and search engine optimisation a key deliverable also. Due to the messy URL structure and results from the research phase, a complete re-build of the URL structure and post slugs was required, which resulted in the need to generate over 2000 301 redirects to help with SEO and web usability. The creation of the 301s was a mammoth task that formed a part of the manual content migration that we undertook.
We were also responsible for the DNS migration, launch and hosting provision. The site launched with no downtime and hosted the site on a truly scaleable server that can scale up and down as resources dictate. We, under the Wibble Support Package, look after all WordPress updates, plugin updates, server patches, backups, uptime monitoring and vulnerability scanning and are looking after the site at every level.
The site is unrecognisable in every way. We, along with Big Motive, have delivered a responsive, fast-loading, secure, modern website that allows the client to fully manage. The site now allows granular control over social media posting and supports multimedia embedding – a feature missing from the previous site.
Using our modular approach to the WordPress block editor, we have delivered a site over which the client has full content control. The process of adding content is hugely simplified, and by using the native block builder, we have ensured future proofing of the CMS for the foreseeable.
Site performance is as high as it can be, with a 100% across the board in Google PageSpeed. This is an exceptionally hard feat to achieve, and it is something that we are exceptionally proud of.
visit CJI NIWe are very proud of the web design reviews that our clients leave. We want to be seen as the best web design studio in Ireland and our client testimonials play a major part in this.
Wibble has provided our organisation with a highly professional and efficient service throughout the build phase of our website redevelopment project, which involved both: web design and web development. The Belfast-based team, in collaboration with their partners, were approachable and responsive, addressing our questions and feedback promptly. They explained technical matters clearly, making each step of the process easy, reassuring and transparent. Wibble focused on delivering a new website that not only meets our current business needs but also offers flexibility for the future. Despite extremely tight timeframes, Paudie and the team worked closely with us, offering expert guidance and consistent support throughout.
We are delighted with the final product and have received very positive feedback both internally and externally following its launch.
