When it comes to building websites, there’s no shortage of agencies that outsource parts of their work. It’s often seen as a quick way to scale or cut costs. But from the very beginning we made a deliberate decision not to outsource our design or development. Instead, we chose to build an in-house design team and development team made up of talented local people who care about the quality of what they produce.
This approach isn’t just about where the work gets done. It’s about how it gets done, who’s responsible for it and the level of pride that goes into every project.
As a Project Manager, I absolutely find that when your designers and developers sit under the same roof, communication is simpler and ideas flow more freely. Our design team and development team work closely together from the very start of every project. That collaboration means fewer handovers, fewer misunderstandings and fewer last minute changes.
Because everyone is involved early, designs are created with development in mind, and technical decisions are informed by creative intent. That alignment is a core part of our web design process and it plays a big role in the quality of our web design work.
Keeping everything in-house means we take full responsibility for what we deliver. There’s no passing tasks to third parties and no gaps in accountability. Every website we build reflects the standards we set for ourselves.
Our local development team understands our coding standards, performance expectations and security requirements. Keeping development in-house allows everyone on the team to develop projects within our custom theme. Our design team understands our brand values and how we want our clients’ brands to be represented. That shared understanding results in more consistent, reliable outcomes.
Outsourcing often introduces delays. Different time zones, slower feedback loops, and long email chains can slow projects down. With an in-house team, questions are answered quickly and decisions are made faster. There’s, also, a stability that comes with the same team working together, day in, day out. When using outsourced agencies, you could be working with different designers and developers from one project to the next.
Employing local designers and developers is something we’re genuinely proud of. It allows us to invest in people, build long-term relationships, and grow skills within our own community.
We are also a living wage employer. Outsourcing and paying designers and developer pennies, goes against this ethos.
Our team isn’t just completing tasks. They’re building careers, developing expertise, and taking ownership of the projects they work on. That pride shows in the final result and is one of the reasons clients trust us with their websites. When people care about what they’re building, the quality of our work speaks for itself.

Outsourcing can make sense in some situations, but for us it doesn’t align with how we want to work. We believe strong relationships, clear communication and shared ownership lead to better outcomes. Those things are much harder to achieve when work is split across multiple external teams.
By keeping everything in-house, we maintain control over quality, timelines and direction. It also allows our design team and development team to continuously improve together, learning from each project and refining our process over time. Truly, we’re working on internal processes continuously. Perhaps I’ll share more on that in my next blog!
