Just where has the last year gone? It’s actually been more than a year but the blog schedule just kept falling in my favour! So thanks to whoever is in charge of that. That lands me in a nice position to use this blog to talk about my first year at Wibble.
To say we’ve been busy would be a slight understatement. I keep waiting for this lull in the year that tends to happen for web and digital agencies and we’ve managed to get from October 2023 to December 2024 without that lull. In an industry where agencies are sadly having to shut down or let people go, we consider ourselves very lucky to be as busy as we are.
With that comes a whole range of clients to work with to keep my role interesting. I’ve been privileged enough to spend my year working with an incredibly diverse set of clients from leading architecture firms, law firms, technological companies, and clients in the leisure and hospitality industry right through to local charities, each project bringing its own challenges and gratification.
I’m extremely fortunate that I get to work with and lean on a wonderfully talented award-winning web design agency that make my job easier by doing their jobs so well. It really does make the managing of projects a bit simpler when you know the design team are going to take their timings seriously or that the development team want to be proud of any website they put out to the public.
Wibble are also set to launch a number of big projects in 2025 so keep an eye out for those!
But let’s not let all that work distract from the perks of being at Wibble. If there’s one thing that I’ve learned about myself this year it’s that I can eat. I can really eat and I think the rest of the team might be appalled. Our snack area used to last a quarter of the year before a refill and now Paudie is lucky if it lasts a quarter of the month. I bet he didn’t see that coming when he was bragging about the snack area and team breakfasts during my interview. If Wibble were to run into financial hard times, my desk being beside the snack area would be the reason.
Thankfully all the eating is counteracted by our Vitality health points competition. We run a monthly competition for exercise and whoever gets the most points gets a voucher, strangely for a food or drink establishment of their choice! Then there’s a bigger prize at the end of the year. It all fell apart a bit this year with people (me) losing their watches and I personally don’t think Dervla who could technically be called a professional athlete should be able to win across the course of a year so keep an eye out for Wibble Sports Day 2025!
I shouldn’t make it all seem like gluttony and nonstop work. We do get countless opportunities to learn new things at work with dedicated self-education time and invites to courses that expand across all areas of expertise within the digital world. At a time when no new technology has a chance to settle before the next big one comes along, this opportunity to learn and grow can’t go unappreciated and underutilised.
